Miss Piggy & Kermie

Since I was about 4, my grandma would lovingly tease that I had the sass and style sense of Miss Piggy. While I’m not as self-absorbed as Piggy can be, I love hard when I love and I have a sass about me. Piggy has a sense of self-confidence that we should all strive to have. She knows that her opinion of her self is the only one that matters.

“Style comes in all shapes and sizes. Therefore, the bigger you are, the more style you have.” – Miss Piggy

The Miss Piggy tattoo was the first one I used Saniderm to help heal it. I loved how simple it was to use. Saniderm is a polyurethane acrylic adhesive medical bandage. You apply it right after the tattoo and leave it on during the healing process. There is no need to wash and lotion the tattoo. The Saniderm keeps it moisturized.

I was surprised that when I woke up the following morning that my tattoo wasn’t screaming to be lotioned. I was able to wear pants the next day without pain or worrying about the fabric sticking to it. I was also shocked that I did not have any type of reaction to it. Being a pale ginger, I tend to react to everything… and I mean everything from soaps to adhesives.

It only made sense that Kermit would be the next one to join the Muppet thigh piece. At this point, any fear I had about tattooing on my lipedema thigh was gone. I knew the pain level I was getting myself into, I had the “magic” Saniderm to make the healing easy… I was good to go. What I didn’t think about was Kermit would be the first tattoo that would be done while I was doing the compression legging wrapping process. I had not put thought into the fact that I would have thousands of freshly open wounds on the top of my leg or that the compression wrapping would be pushing all the extra lymph fluid up towards those fresh wounds.

I had a horrible reaction this time around. I fully believe it was all the extra lymph fluid trapped under the Saniderm that caused the reaction. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had. It was this combination of heat, pain, and itchiness like I’ve never felt before. I felt like I was going to lose my mind.

I was obsessing over whether or not Kermit was going to scar. A friend said “how about you worry about infection?” to which I replied, “infection I can fix with medicine but if this scars and messes up the whole look of the leg I’ll be so upset.” I’m happy to report that Kermit (and the skin around him) healed up wonderfully. He just needed some minor touch-ups.
